Read Eliana's Story

Updated: Aug 25, 2020

Hey Quarenteens!

I’m Eliana H. and I live in NY. I’m 16 years old. My favorite movie is Mamma Mia but I love all the marvel movies too. I’ve been rewatching them during quarantine. That’s one good thing about this situation-I’ve been able to watch more movies. I’m not sure what my favorite book is but I just read Crescent City by Sarah J Maas and it was so good; I highly recommend it. I have a dog, Jenny. We’re not really sure what she is, but we’ve had her for five years and she’s super adorable. My favorite tv shows are Doctor who and Brooklyn nine nine. I really love to travel to new places. I want to get to see as many places as I can. The place I want to visit the most is Greece. I think my favorite place I’ve been to would be France or Mexico. I do tennis in the fall and I’m part of model UN.

Okay, now on to quarantine. Quarantine was good at first. I was happy to have an excuse to stay inside all day and have so much less school. But after the first few weeks it got much harder. I missed seeing my friends and I was getting really bored. That’s when I started baking(lots of chocolate chip cookies) and going on walks with friends(with masks). Seeing my friends, even for an hour, really helped keep me sane. My school changed a lot because of Covid-19. I only had each class for 30 minutes twice a week, and I had so much less homework. Some of my activities, like my youth group and model UN, adapted to quarantine. I attended a few online conferences for model UN and trivia nights with my youth group which was really fun. One problem I’ve had is it’s been hard to stay in contact with people. I don’t really text that much, so I haven’t talked to some of my friends since in-person school ended. I’ve also had to make schedules for myself because while I love not having structure it means I get nothing done. While sleeping in till noon and then watching tv was fun, it meant I procrastinated even more than normal. So that’s something new I’ve learned I guess: I need structure in my life.

I’ve been pretty lucky though. No one I know has gotten covid, and since my grandpa lives in the middle of nowhere, New Hampshire, I have someplace to go over the summer and have a vacation similar to normal. Something I really like about quarantine is that I’ve gotten to sleep more and have made a significant dent in my to-watch/to-read lists which had previously been a mile long. I know many places are already reopening, so I want to say stay safe and hopefully this will all be over soon.
